Glass is taken to drop off or convenience centers and all the rest is put in single stream curbside carts.
All Paper, Plastic, and Metal that is approved on this website for City Curbside Recycling. Glass must be in a separate bin.
In both residential and commercial recycling, GLASS MUST BE SEPARATED. This is because it is brought to BuRRT (and dropped off by individuals or by City and County of Santa Fe trucks) and crushed or transported to Colorado for recycling. If put in with other recyclables in your cart, they will most likely end up in the trash or will contaminant loads of recyclables, or possibly injuring workers when it gets broken.
In the City of Santa Fe’s Residential Curbside Recycling Program, plastic and metal containers can be placed with paper in your blue mixed recycling cart. In commercial recycling, paper can be mixed with the non glass recyclables (plastics and metals), and shredded paper should be tied off in a clear plastic bag.
In residential curbside recycling, cardboard should be broken down and flattened. It should be less than 3 x 3 feet to fit on top of recyclables in your cart with lid closed. For commercial recycling, a cardboard only dumpster can be used.
The residential and commercial curbside recycling programs do not accept HHW or Electronics (E-Waste) in the bins. If your item is not accepted in the recycling carts, call Environmental Services (505) 955-2200 or check out the Environment Services Website to find out where you may be able to recycle it.
